As the Jr. Quality Assurance Specialist, you will be responsible for helping to execute the quality testing strategy of the project's defined and approved Quality Assurance plan. In addition to writing and executing test cases for a large-scale, multi-system project, you will be helping debug and document defects found within the system and communicate the current status of the QA effort. The candidate must be a self-starter, a strong team player with a solutions-focused mindset, and ideally will have experience working in complex architectures. The candidate will be expected to quickly learn the domain-specific processes for a Department of Defense (DoD) electronic Procure-to-Pay (P2P) environment. Government procurement system experience is a significant plus.

Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are required. Must be able to work with engineering and analyst teams, along with the ability to coordinate with government personnel.

Candidates must be U.S. citizens and able to pass a T3 background investigation.

NOTE: This fully remote role requires the candidate to participate in meetings virtually using tools like Microsoft Teams. Online availability during the core hours of 9 AM PST/PDT to 4 PM PST/PDT, Monday through Friday, will be required. Availability to support EST core hours as needed

Responsibilities include

  • Test and troubleshoot code using complex industry programs and practices to detect quality issues with code functionality and performance.
  • Support contractor and government personnel in testing activities (i.e., Test Readiness Reviews (TRR), Regression Testing, Functional Testing, System Level Developmental Testing (DT), Cybersecurity Testing, User Acceptance Testing, Interface/API Testing, Integration Testing, Smoke Testing, Unit Testing, Performance/Load Testing, and Compliance Testing).
  • Review business and technical requirements to determine testing needs.
  • Assist with writing and maintaining test cases and other supporting documentation for individual and team testing efforts.
  • Assist with risk and impact analysis, escalating issues that threaten the successful completion and deployment of the project’s releases.
  • Consult with the QA/Test Leads, QA colleagues, project teams, and end users to support efforts that ensure that application system, end-user, and compliance/regulatory requirements are being met.
  • Proactively communicate the status of the project, the testing effort, impediments, and/or any specific tasks to project team members and QA leadership.
  • Create and maintain documentation related to organizational and project testing efforts (i.e., test plans, test cases, test reports, traceability matrixes, etc.)
  • Attend meetings as a QA representative, collaborating with project team members and contributing to discussions with a solution-focused approach.
  • Participate in training and working sessions with more senior QA resources to expand industry knowledge and tool skillset.

Skills and Experience Desired

  • 1-3 years of experience in QA as a self-motivated member of a project team.
  • Experience with testing, test case management, and defect analysis.
  • Recent and relevant experience with identifying and executing functional and regression test cases needed to verify business and technical requirements of a variety of system components.
  • Experience with testing software including Selenium, Cucumber, and Postman.
  • Ability to critically review project documentation and identify QA needs.
  • Ability to proactively identify and communicate ideas, issues, obstacles, and overall project status.
  • Experience working with project management tools (i.e. Jira) is a plus.
  • Familiar working on projects using agile (specifically SAFe & Scrum) methodologies is a plus.
  • Experience with relational database systems, including the ability to write basic SQL queries to support testing and data validation efforts.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills that encourage a team-focused, success-oriented environment.
  • Self-directed with an ability to manage deadlines and prioritize effectively.
  • Experience writing automated tests within a Selenium-supported framework is a plus.
  • Familiarity with continuous delivery (CI/CD) environments is a plus.

Place of Performance

The candidate will be required to interact and coordinate with external project team members and other Avum employees remotely. As a remote employee, the candidate will not have a permanent office or desk space but may be required to attend in-person meetings. This may require travel to government sites located in Washington, D.C., and the Avum office located in Agoura Hills, California. Our priority is acquiring the most qualified candidate to satisfactorily perform the required tasks, including team collaboration, regardless of the candidate’s geographical location.

Educational/Work Experience

Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a curriculum or major field of study that provides substantial knowledge useful in system development and is closely related to the work detailed above and/or in computer science, information systems, physical science, engineering or mathematics–intensive discipline, or an applicable training certificate from an accredited training institution.

Salary

Starting salaries for this position range from $60,000 - $82,400 and are commensurate with experience. The position is full-time, salaried, with benefits.
